The negative aspects and how we chose to handle it. Learn all this and more at this fun-filled session!\r\n\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=txqiwrbYGrs\"><strong>Watch David After Dentist...<\/strong><\/a>\r\n\r\nThe video has been viewed over 54 million times today.\r\nYouTube said that this was the 2nd most viewed video after Susan Boyle.\r\nOn the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comedycentral.com\/tosh.0\/\">Tosh.0 show<\/a>\r\n\r\n<strong>How did this happen?<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>They did it because David\u2019s mom couldn\u2019t be there. Dad stays at home and had to take David to the dentist.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>David would get very nervous about the dentist (7yrs old).<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Decided to use flip cam to show David his nervousness was worse than the actual event, and to show Mom. The plan was to record the whole day.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>It was originally shown to just family and friends (email or at home).<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Got into Facebook later, and posted to wall. FB friends really liked it.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Feb, \u201809 it got posted to Youtube to make it easier since other\u2019s wanted to see it. It was made public.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>David was asked if he was OK with it being posted for public view, and he was OK with it.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>The night it was posted it had 10k views\u2026 shocked.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Radio shows picked up on it the following Monday morning. They did a lot of radio interviews. They started pulling it up on YouTube after hearing on radio. The following day it was up to 3 million views.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>Were we OK with this many people seeing it?<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>Are we OK with this? Was David OK with it?<\/li>\r\n\t<li>We\u2019ll make a family adventure out of this and see what happens.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Nothing has happened that the family hasn\u2019t been comfortable with.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>Jimmy Kimmel \u2013 Tosh.0 \u2013 Other features<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>ABC\/Disney wouldn\u2019t allow Jimmy Kimmel to use it because of the subject matter.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>The family was able to go out and warm up the audience even though they couldn\u2019t be on the show.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Were able to go to Disney World and get a photo with Dentist Mickey and Minnie<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Went on Tosh.0, and did a portion of that show.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Super Bowl Commercial \u2013 hired an actor to recreate video with Beyonce.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>Parodies<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>There are so many out there!<\/li>\r\n\t<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=sGTAnXqn9Jc\">Chad Vader is their favorite<\/a>.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Going to visit and see Chad Vader in April<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=sGTAnXqn9Jc\">Watch Chad Vader After Dentist...<\/a>\r\n<\/strong>\r\n\r\n<strong>Controversy<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>People thought dad drugged David, or the car was moving.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Chicago Sun Times wrote a scathing article about the video \u2013 her daughter showed the author the video.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>The popularity of the video jumped after the article (Today Show, Tyra Banks, Bill Oreily)<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Took off outside the US as well.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>David has been protected from much of it. The TV was turned off. An awards show wanted to use part of it, but they turned it down.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>David Loves In-N-Out Burger!!! (smart kid!)<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>Monetization = Paying for College<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>Maybe they can buy a bike or video games, and it grew.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Maybe they can pay for college or even the other children.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>That would be the best thing to get out of it.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>They\u2019ve been able to do some charitable things, and show David about doing good things.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Majority of the money is from the YouTube partner program (ad share). Sometimes there will be a sponsored ad on another page.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Visio commercial licensed the video.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>They\u2019ve turned several down, and some companies have also turned down using it.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Europe and Australia have used the video for several shows (license fee).<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Doctors and Dentists have approached as a funny opening, or also as part of an education program showing effects of anesthesia. Harvard used it in some current events class.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Licensing was a challenge (legal documents) \u2013 Hollywood is used to paying very little money with very strict legal requirements. America\u2019s Funniest Videos owns the video forever whether they use it or not.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>Family Business<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>Tshirt and promotional material is all done at home.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>New logo created by Genine Shafer<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Brand new website went live last night (<a href=\"http:\/\/davidafterdentist.com\">http:\/\/davidafterdentist.com<\/a>) \u2013 over 100,000 new video views a day.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\u201cIt\u2019s just really cool to be a part of something like this. The positive comments from people are great.\u201d\r\n\r\n<strong>Questions:<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>What was the first trip back to the dentist like?\r\nThe surgeon that did it didn\u2019t want to have anything to do with it.
